Pinewood Derby, 2012 was a very exciting night for the Irwin family! Keith and Sam worked hard to make a super cool car to enter the race this year and they went with the hopes that it might win a few races and look good while doing it. While Sam imagined how cool it would be to win, Keith and I made sure he knew that he could still have a lot of fun even if he didn't. As he started to win races we were thrilled. When he went undefeated up to the finals we were shocked. The idea that he might actually win became too much for poor Sam to bear. He could hardly stand to watch and would cover his eyes or completely turn away from the track in nervous anticipation. It was adorable! In the end, after several tie breaker runs, his car squeaked out a narrow victory! Sam was so genuinely happy and you could see it on his face. It was such a great confidence booster for him and a wonderful bonding opportunity for him and his Dad. It was a night that we will always remember for sure!
